A new study published on the preprint server medRxiv* in June 2020 reports that viral RNA, in the form of aerosols, has been found to occur in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and AC) units in healthcare facilities such as hospitals.
The filter and room air exchangers used to moderate the transmission of disease in healthcare facilities is "not sufficient" for preventing transmission of the purpose in the case of SARS-CoV-2 in healthcare facilities. "In short, the use of modern filtration practices at the highest level of purification in a healthcare environment is still not sufficient to rule out the passage of the viral RNA and possibly viral particles through the HVAC systems, and therefore their re-entry into the hospital rooms." This shows, "the possibility that the air from spaces housing infected patients could reach other spaces in the building containing other occupants while containing the virus despite having been refreshed with 70% to 80% fresh air from outside." Therefore, the virus’ particles can be transmitted by environmental contamination by being "carried in an aerosol from the source by the air currents formed by HVAC systems" to other locations.
The Micron Pure™ device is designed to reduce airborne bacteria, viruses, and fungal spores in order to decrease infection rates from airborne pathogens. The Micron Pure™ contains HEPA grade filtration in addition to ozone generation to further reduce viable airborne organisms. The use of negative pressure rooms for housing patients with COVID-19 significantly reduces the risk of such recirculation within HVAC systems. Micron Pure™ is designed to be effective at killing viruses at this tiny scale (SARS-CoV-2 is approximately 0.125 microns). It continuously treats air to inactivate airborne pathogens in hospitals, offices, public spaces, and homes.
Third-party testing of the initial prototype unit at ARE Labs showed >99.99% removal of all particles even those just 1⁄2 the size of SARS-CoV-2. Also, ozone is far more powerful and reactive than other common disinfectants such as chlorine and hypochlorite, it kills germs over 3,000x faster. Micron Pure™ allows continuous air cleaning using ozone without having to vacate the area for hours. Micron Pure™ can reduce airborne contamination as well as inactivate pathogens left on objects that become airborne from an infected person.
Therefore, Micron Pure™ can help slow the spread of COVID-19, flatten the curve of infection rate, is quick and effective, can reduce contamination, and increase protection in high-risk areas.
Other notes: The filters used should be of the highest possible efficiency and the design optimal to ensure relative humidity between 40% to 60% while increasing the amount of introduced outdoor air.
